The serial number on the gun was unreadable.The student told police that he received the gun a few months ago from a 16 year old friend who lives in Rosehaven, the police report said. His friend wantedhim to try to repair it.When he could not fix the gun, his friend told him he could keep it, the police report said.The 16 year old told police that he carried the gun in his bag during a visit to his father’s home on Feb. 29. He said he never took the gun out of thebag when he went home and forgot it was there when he brought the bag to school, the police report said.The boy told detectives that when he got the gun, the barrel was about three inches longer and bent, so he sawed it off, the police report said. He admitted to officers that he had obliterated the serial number but would not say why, the police report said.
